ALEX G-“BEACH MUSIC” (10/9) (Over the course of six self-recorded
and mostly self-released LPs, Alex G has built a body of work unassuming in its
presentation, but astounding in its depth. Beach Music was written and recorded
in his apartment between the fall of 2014 and the spring of 2015, during breaks
from touring. Earlier albums often came in uninterrupted bursts—from his head
to the internet in a matter of hours or days. The songs on Beach Music were
written within months of one another. Surprisingly, the result is his most
cohesive and beautiful work to date; a standout addition to an incredible body
of work.)

12. GOLD
CLASS-“IT’S YOU” (10/16) (There
are few voices of meaningful dissent left in rock music. Even fewer play with
the savagery, subtlety and melody of Melbourne-based newcomers Gold Class. Gold
Class formed quickly. Guitarist Evan James Purdey recruited fellow
creative-writing students Mark Hewitt (drums) and Adam Curley (vocals) to
elaborate on guitar ideas he’d recorded to a Dictaphone over the course of a
summer. Jon Shub, who worked late-night bar shifts with Purdey and Curley and
who builds and fixes guitars out of a workshop, made an instrument for himself
and joined on bass. Armed with only a handful of songs, Gold Class quickly drew
heads to their live shows when they appeared mid-2014, just a couple of months
after getting together. Characterised by attacking rhythms, bristling garage
guitar lines and the deep vibrato of singer Adam Curley, the band were soon
mixing art-space and basement gigs for their debut seven-inch, “Michael”. In
the autumn of 2015, Gold Class recorded ten songs to tape. The result is the
band’s debut album, It’s You. Political protest meets Australian kosmische;
proud perversion rubs against lo-fi jangle, and outsider longings become
rallying choruses as Gold Class play out the push-and-pull of their first
album’s title.)

LAURIE ANDERSON-“HEART OF A DOG”
[COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK RECORDING] (10/23) (The complete
soundtrack recording of Laurie Anderson's newest piece, Heart of a Dog,
is available from Nonesuch Records on October 23, 2015. Anderson was recently
commissioned by the European TV network Arte to create a feature film—her first
in 30 years. Her response was a personal essay entitled Heart of a Dog,
a work encompassing joy and heartbreak and remembering and forgetting, at the
heart of which is a lament for her late beloved dog Lolabelle. Heart
of a Dog has been shown at the Telluride, Venice, and Toronto Film
Festivals to critical praise, with the New York Times calling it a
"philosophically astute, emotionally charged meditation on death, love,
art and dogs." The movie will be screened at the New York Film Festival
on October 8, before opening theatrically at New York's Film Forum on October
21. It also will be shown on HBO in early 2016. In addition to
Anderson's inimitably thoughtful narration, Heart of a Dog includes
musical excerpts from several of her pieces—"The Lake" and
"Flow" from Homeland (2010), "Beautiful Pea Green
Boat" from Bright Red (1994), "Rhumba Club" from Life
on a String (2001), excerpts from Landfall (2011) with Kronos
Quartet—as well as the film's closing song "Turning Time Around,"
written and performed by Anderson's late husband, Lou Reed. From October 2
through 4, New York's Park Avenue Armory presents Anderson's complementary
piece, Habeas Corpus—a site-specific work that interweaves film,
sculpture, music, and video to examine the story of Mohammed el Gharani, one of
the youngest detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Open to the public during the day,
the installation serves as a meditation on time, identity, surveillance, and
freedom—themes also explored in Heart of a Dog. The evocative setting is
also activated at night with a celebratory performance and dance party with
Syrian singer Omar Souleyman, including a new sonic composition created by
Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs with Anderson. The result is a new work that spans
the worlds of visual art, performance, and experimental music.)

FUZZ-“FUZZ
II” (10/23) (Ty Segall, along with Charlie Moothart and Chad
Ubovich, make up this garage supergroup of sorts. Their second album is sure to
deliver the big muffed, heavy psych-rock goods, judging by songs like the
fat-bottomed "Pollinate.")

7.
PAUL HEATON & JACQUI ABBOTT-“WISDOM,

8.
HORSEBEACH-“HORSEBEACH II” (10/23) (2015 release. Alive with lyrical
depth, melodic intricacy and lush production, Horsebeach's II is the work of
confident and mature multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Ryan Kennedy and
crew. Opening with the subtle rumble of early-morning Chinatown, a hazy
instrumental sharpens into focus with languid guitars, gently welcoming one
into a dream of Kennedy's creation. The summery groove and pop majesty of
"It's Alright" soon eases spinning into infinity, soothed by the
warm, chiming guitars, while Beth de Cent's smoky vocals come together in
perfect harmony with Kennedy's. "Andy" offers a yearning tale of
forbidden love, packed with homoerotic overtones so full-blooded they'd make
Morrissey blush like a young Caligula, while the marbled melodies of
"Broken Light" come on in nostalgic ripples and waves of sepia-tinged
beauty. Opening the B-side with masterful subtlety, synth-led instrumental
"Midnight Part 2" takes a moonlit stroll by the ocean before
"Dana" ushers in the dawn with the greatest X-Files inspired song
ever written (sorry, Cerys). The antithesis of over-serious hipster cool, the
earnestly emotional lyrics and anthemic chords should be enough to prompt John
Hughes to rise again and make a much-needed sequel to The Breakfast Club.
"Disappear" finds Kennedy and drummer Matt Booth drinking in the
cosmic vintage of Düsseldorf '72, as their chiming West Coast guitars are
joined by celestial keys, head-nodding bass grooves and a motorik rhythm.
"Avoid the Light" closes the album with a plea to stay in the
dreamworld just a little longer.)

VAINIO AND FRANCK VIGROUX-“PEAU FROIDE, LEGER SOLEIL” (10/23) (Peau froide, léger soleil is the result of a three-year recording
process initiated by Mika Vainio and Franck Vigroux after a series of shared
live experiences, beginning with a show in Paris in 2012. Their collaboration
is an exercise in sensitive intensity, drifting through the whole space between
minimalist meditations and maximalist kinetics. Vainio's signature brutalist
production resonates throughout the album, constructing a psychic scenario for
Vigroux's researches in spatial abstraction and tonal radicalism. Densely built
through free-from structural limitation, this intense nine-track album is the
third installment in the catalog of Berlin-based label Cosmo Rhythmatic, and
acts as new chapter in the label's construction of an uncompromising sonic
identity. Mastered by Denis Blackham at Skye Mastering. Lacquer cut at D&M,
Berlin. Front cover photograph by Umut Ungan. Back cover photograph by Diego

JOHN LUTHER ADAMS & GLENN KOTCHE-“LLIMAQ”
(10/30) (CD/DVD)
2.
ADMX 71-“COHERENT ABSTRACTIONS” (10/30) (Adam X is back with his third album release under his industrial
guise, ADMX-71. Following releases with the legendary label Hands and his own
imprint, Sonic Groove Experiments, Adam paired up with L.I.E.S Records in 2014
for The Redacted Files, a 12" of slowed-down and tense EBM wizardry. Adam
now returns to the L.I.E.S. front with Coherent Abstractions, an album of
singular experiments that pull from every corner of electronic music's
landscape into a comprehensive and propulsive full-length. Coherent
Abstractions pulsates with fractured rhythms, vacillating melodies, and
mesmerizing compositions that showcase Adam's impressive history working in all
aspects of the underbelly of electronic music. Noise and industrial elements
seep into the album's 11 songs, churning the cold and abrasive into feverish
new territory. Though Coherent Abstractions operates primarily in sounds of
solitude, guest vocalist Janina joins "Bound and Broken" for a rare
vocal collaboration on an ADMX-71 track. We also hear a frantic vocal
performance from the producer on "Nearing Obliteration," which is
undoubtedly the apex of the album. Throughout the album the music sweeps from
breakbeat noir and anxious electronic dub to reflective industrial modes,
making Coherent Abstractions an engaging and varied listen, updating a
late-'80s EBM tone into modern sound design environments while pushing a
reverence for the past and heading into the deep unknown of the future. For
those unfamiliar with Adam's deeply rooted history in the New York underground,
he and his brother, Frankie Bones, pioneered techno in a post-disco,
pre-Giuliani New York City through the late '80s and onward past the '90s, producing
countless records under various guises and finally opening their own shop and
record label, Sonic Groove. At the same time they began throwing renegade
parties, known as Storm Rave, throughout the five boroughs -- a practice that
was unheard of at the time in such a major US metropolis and opened the door
for what was to come.)

EDIE BRICKELL & STEVE MARTIN-“SO
FAMILIAR” (10/30) (Comedian, actor, author,
playwright, and musician Steve Martin joins up with his fellow Texas native
Edie Brickell (singer-songwriter who initially burst onto the national scene as
New Bohemians front-woman) on this, their second studio album collaboration,
entitled 'So Familiar.' The Grammy-winning duo showcase an organic, evolving
relationship that continues to bring out new creative strengths. This new
collection's stirring, sublime set of jointly written compositions match
Martin's inventive, expressive five-string banjo work with Brickell's
distinctive vocals and detail-rich lyrics. The songs also benefit from multi
award-winning artist and producer Peter Asher, who contributes expansive
arrangements, making imaginative use of a wide array of acoustic and orchestral
instrumentation, lending a cinematic quality to the songs' intimate character
studies. 'So Familiar' also features a variety of prominent players from the
worlds of bluegrass, folk, pop and rock, including seminal banjo ace Béla Fleck
along with session bass legend Leland Sklar, Cobra Starship's Victoria Asher,
Mike Einziger of Incubus, Emmy-award winning composer/arranger Geoff Zanelli,
and Martin's much-acclaimed longtime bluegrass cohorts the Steep Canyon
Rangers. Rolling Stone professes the first single, 'Won't Go Back,' 'retains
the rootsy feel of Martin and Brickell's earlier collaborations but adds a new
full-band folk-rock feel - and even a thumping electronica bridge.')

versions of the three studio albums that Cowboy Junkies released in the 2000s
(Open, One Soul Now and At The End Of Paths Taken) and a fourth disc consisting
of songs that were written during the making of the three studio albums, but
never completed or released. In the summer of 2015, the band re-imagined and
re-recorded all the songs for this collection. The resulting recordings have a
touch of The band s trademark psychedelia with a large dose of its folk roots.)

Truckers recorded in San Francisco last fall. Patterson Hood says: We sequenced
it to be like kind of an ultimate DBT set list. We never use a set list from
night to night so the show is ever evolving, but for this it was like, what

JAM-“FIRE AND SKILL: THE JAM LIVE” [6-CD BOX SET] (10/30) (Named after the legend painted on Paul Weller’s amp,
Fire And Skill is a superb six disc boxed set featuring six previously
unreleased concerts, one from each year of The Jam s major-label career.
Starting with an incendiary early gig at London’s famous 100 Club from 1977,
the show featured took place 10 months after they first played the venue in
November 1976, and was recorded for broadcast on American radio ahead of the
trio’s inaugural visit to US in October 1977 for a six-date tour. A Music
Machine show from 1978, featuring most of the 2nd album This Is The Modern
World . The show was The Jam s sixth live show of the year and one of four
low-key shows in the capital to fanfare their new News Of The World single
under the banner The London Blitz . Reading University, February 1979 - playing
material from their breakthrough album All Mod Cons , was The Jam s first live
appearance of 1979, and found the band in a radically different place to their
showcase at the Music Machine 12 months before. In that time, their third
album, All Mod Cons , had been released to critical acclaim, and their status
as one of the New Wave s most musically substantial and exciting bands had been
secured. And Weller was still only 20 years old... Newcastle City Hall October
1980, previewing songs from forthcoming album Sound Affects . In the time
between The Jam s show at Reading University on Disc 3 and their appearance at
Newcastle City Hall 20 months later, there had been more extraordinary
developments in the group s world. Setting Sons , their fourth album, had given
them a Top 3 hit with The Eton Rifles , which was followed in February 1980
with the stirring Number 1 single, Going Underground . After three years on
Polydor, The Jam had finally become the biggest group in the UK. London s
legendary Hammersmith Palais December 1981, part of The Jam s four consecutive
nights, previewing material from the forthcoming final album The Gift . The
shows taking the innovative form of a 60s soul revue, showcasing new acts
including Bananarama, Department S and TV21. One of the band s final ever gigs
at Wembley Arena - 1982. Late in 1982 The Jam announced they were splitting up
- there would, though, be a final chance for fans to experience The Jam s
astonishing live shows, with a 14-date farewell tour announced for late November
and December. The centrepiece was a five-night stand at Wembley Arena, the
10,000-capacity shed next to the London football stadium (the recording here is
from the second date), the biggest live venue in the capital. Packaged in mini,
lift-off lid box this set includes a separate hard-back book and individual
gatefold wallets for the discs, as well as new essay, period photos and rare
memorabilia. All audio has been remastered at Abbey Road.)
17. L
A N D-“ANOXIA” (10/30) (The second L A
N D album, Anoxia, sees Daniel Lea return alone with an outing that marks a
shift from the industrial-inflected jazz-noir of 2012's Night Within into
distinctly new terrain. Mixed by Ben Frost at Greenhouse Studios, Reykjavík;
mastered by Rashad Becker at D&M, Berlin. CD packaged in a combination
offset/screenprinted jacket. "Anoxia" means "total absence of
oxygen," and in Lea's hands the term heralds aural environments that are
full of the dreams of humanity yet may well be devoid of its living presence.
The Anthropocene era in which we live has seen the rise of many human-made
monuments that add up to a total presence that humanity will leave behind;
Lea's labyrinthine arrangements are a soundtrack to such a world, one without
humanity that is nevertheless fully marked and constructed by humans. From the
very first moments of the pummeling djun djun skins and the growing bowed
rototoms of "Labyrinthitis," the direction is one of a more radical
constructivist sound rooted in modernist architecture. Lea has elevated his
practice to the point at which he cleaves space sonically, and Frost is the
perfect person to mix such spaces. The results are visions of a brutalist world
slowly decaying, but with the mellifluous harmonics of vegetation and fluid
matter entwining through the ruination. Other tracks rise up like towers in a
city, growing from the metallic chimes and structured percussion; one sees
visions of the Balfron Tower or the Genex Tower, but such associations do not
tether this work to geographical real-world locations. Anoxia may well be in a
time outside of time. On "Anoxia," cello harmonics swing their head
and screech like prancing komodo dragons, marking the entry to the final track,
the "End Zone," with which Lea carries out his own initiation ritual,
a dance between those edifices left beneath the growing millennial weeds and
forests. Monuments that will long outlast their creators. Daniel Lea: sound
design, field recordings, processing, electronics, composition, production.
With Rupert Clervaux: drums, percussion, aluphone, crotales, copper pipes;
Jamie McCarthy: cello on "Metamorphosis," "Equinox,"
"Transition," and "Anoxia" and bowed percussion and copper
pipes on "Equinox" and "Anoxia"; Clive Bell: shakuhachi on
"Drop City," "Equinox," and "Anoxia"; Leo
Abrahams: processed guitars on "Neutra," "Transition," and
"End Zone"; Mark Wastell: tamtam on "Neutra,"
"Equinox," "Transition," "Anoxia," and "End
Zone"; and Dom Garwood: clarinets on "Labyrinithitis.")

METHENY GROUP-“PHASE DANCER…LIVE 1977” (10/30) (Having played
with Gary Burton, Jaco Pastorius, and other leading fusion musicians, the
prodigious Pat Metheny made his solo recording debut in 1976. The following
year he released Watercolors, marking the start of his long collaboration with
pianist Lyle Mays. That summer they played various dates (together with bassist
Mark Egan and drummer Danny Gottlieb). The superb tracks featured here include
material from Watercolors and the Pat Metheny Group album (which would be
released in 1978), and were originally broadcast on KJAZ-FM. The complete
broadcast is presented here in digitally remastered sound with background notes
and images. "Phase Dancer," "Watercolors," and "Wrong
Is Right" were recorded at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco
on August 31, 1977; "San Lorenzo" was recorded at the Seattle Opera
House on September 4, 1977.)
21. MY
DISCO-“SEVERE” (10/30) (MY DISCO have always
employed space as an instrument. Space between notes; space between
instruments; even space between albums, as the Australian trio prepare to
release Severe, their first full-length record in nearly five years. More than
just a title, Severe pushes MY DISCO's subtle, intensely focused, minimalist
sound to its most terrifying extreme. It is bleak, occasionally uncomfortable,
and unpredictably profound. Severe is an album of aggravated tonal darkness and
long breaths of disturbing silence, punctuated by pounding stabs and heavy,
hypnotic rhythms. It is a minimalist approach to maximum sound, and by far the
band's darkest, heaviest, and most consistent album of MY DISCO's burgeoning
career.)

23. OCTOBER
PROJECT-“THE BOOK OF ROUNDS” [21 SONGS OF GRACE] (10/30) (Since their stellar 1993 debut, October Project has
delighted listeners with albums inspired by the true origin of all songs—the
merging of words and music to illuminate the spirit. With The Book of Rounds, they
offer an album specifically intended to comfort, heal, and awaken us.
Originally composed as “modern mantras” or uplifting plainchants, these three
song cycles—voiced beautifully here by a choir specially assembled for this
album—are now available to evoke within all of us the felt experiences of
grace, shelter, hope amidst darkness, joy, renewal, and more. October Project
is best known for their albums October Project (Epic, 1993) and Falling Farther
In (Epic, 1995; more than 500,000 units sold). With new recordings, an active
touring schedule, and a strong online presence, they continue to build their
passionate base of crossover pop and healing music fans. For more, visit

24. PUSCIFER-“MONEY SHOT” (10/30) (Puscifer is back with a new
album and a huge buzz! Money Shot is coming your way Oct. 30 and we couldn't be
more excited. Have you seen the video for the first song the band released for
Grand Canyon? Money shot is the follow up to Conditions Of My Parole and marks
Maynard Keenan and company's third full length album and its first new album in
four years. ''It¹s extremely satisfying to witness simple conversations and
ideas transform into completed sonic landscapes,'' Keenan told Rolling Stone.
''And to have these stories go above and beyond the initial ideas makes my
grumpy heart swell three sizes.'' In addition, fans can look for Puscifer
hitting the road in November for their first extended North American touring in
support of the Money Shot album. Dates begin Nov. 1 at the Monster Mash
Festival in Phoenix with shows booked into mid-December. For the upcoming
shows, the live lineup will consist of Maynard James Keenan, Mat Mitchell,
Carina Round, Jeff Friedl, Masha Zargaran and Paul Barker. Luchafer will open
all of the band's late fall tour dates. As is the Modus Operandi of Puscifer,
there will be a whole new show to accompany the Money Shot release. ''We've
been leaving a few clues here and there as to what it may entail,'' says Keenan.
''As usual, we prefer to Show rather than Tell. Odds are if you've been a fan
of the diverse nature of our performances in the past, you¹ll want to go ahead
and place those bets.'')

MacColl's songs from artists who span the worlds of pop, rock, Celtic, and
folk. Rather than trying to be a definitive collection, it provides a testament
to the range and influence of this remarkable singer and songwriter. Known as
the godfather of the first British folk revival, Ewan MacColl is hailed for writing
such classic songs as The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Dirty Old Town, The
Shoals of Herring and The Joy of Living. JOY OF LIVING: A TRIBUTE TO EWAN

from MacColl s two sons, Calum and Neill. Highlights include Steve Earle's take
on Dirty Old Town, Norma Waterson's peerless rendition of the plight of the
travelers in The Moving On Song, Paul Buchanan's (Blue Nile) crooning First
Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Bombay Bicycle Club s moving version of The Young
Birds and Rufus & Martha Wainwright's performance of Sweet Thames Flow
Softly. Additional contributors are evidence of MacColl's far-reaching
influence and include such impressive names as Paul Brady, Billy Bragg, Eliza
Carthy, Martin Carthy, Damien Dempsey, Dick Gaughan, David Gray, Christy Moore,
Karine Polwart, and Martin Simpson. Joy of Living: A Tribute to Ewan MacColl
pays homage to this fearless, uncompromising character whose influence is still
felt not only within but far beyond the folk world.)

ARTISTS-“80’S RE:COVERED / YOUR SONGS WITH THE 80’S SOUND” [2-CD] (10/30) (2015 two CD set. The 80s is a decade that has left us
not only an unforgettable catalog of songs, but also a wide list of talented
artists that so many years later, are still active, both touring and recording
new material. 80s: Re-Covered is a fantastic project in which 12 essential
artists of the 80's (Kim Carnes, Curiosity Killed The Cat, Heaven 17, ABC,
Black, Kim Wilde, etc) take on the challenge of reworking non-'80s songs with
an '80s sound. The result is an album with an amazing repertoire that also
works as a hidden-gem of the 80s. The recordings were created exclusively for
this project, arranged and produced by a team that includes Robin Millar (Sade,
Fine Young Cannibals, Big Country, Eric Clapton and Sting among many others).
80s: Re-Covered is a pharaonic and unique project, which has been already
acclaimed and requested by our distributors and fans all over the world and
definitely will deliver it's fair share of worldwide hit singles. An album that
will make history.)

Los Angeles between their third and fourth official albums and featuring Chris
Cacavas of Green on Red. This album is the missing link between their Americana

recordings with excellent sound quality, remastered for vinyl. Includes inner
sleeve liner notes by Steve Wynn and Dennis Duck. A mandatory record for all
lovers of the Paisley Underground sound and Americana.)

and the Bad Seeds, The Butcher Shop) made these recordings in Berlin in 1987,
as part of the sessions that would become 1987's Mother Juno (BANG 082LP).
These recordings are much more raw, aggressive, and intense in their original
form, and they are now finally collected and mastered as they were intended.

the USA on CD in 1995, is now available on vinyl for the first time. A truly
intense and deeply passionate acoustic performance, with a selection drawing
from Hart's solo career, his band Nova Mob, and, of course, Hüsker Dü. Ecce
Homo is to Hüsker Dü as Johnny Thunders's Hurt Me (1983) is to New York Dolls.
A recording filled with honesty, sincerity, and even desperation, this is a
total must for all followers of '80s and '90s American independent rock.

SHADOW IN THE CRACKS-“SHADOW IN THE CRACKS” (11/6) (2015 release by this musical side-project from brothers
Jim and Mike Blaha, who constitute 66.6% of The Blind Shake. Shadows in the
Cracks "refers to the darker part of the dark," explains Jim.
"We decided to create a new band after the first song was written. It felt
much different to us that it sort of got us scheming and we created an entire
back-story / idea for the band; then started writing the songs within that
limitation. Having only a kick drum and Indian bells changed the way we played
our guitars. It could have been a new direction for the Blind Shake for sure,
but it was really fun to enjoy the new limitations without having the
temptation to go back to what was more familiar. The first song was written
when the drums were not fully set up at our practice space. Mike sat behind the
kick drum and started playing. I responded to what he was doing and it came out
way different than it usually does. It really moved us in a new way.")

SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE-“EARLY RISERS” (11/6) (NYC
ANTI-BAND Soldiers Of Fortune
- a cracked, "dirty dozen" outfit comprised of members of Endless Boogie, Oneida, Chavez, and Interpol
- return with their second album, Early Risers. Guest vocal stylings
from Stephen Malkmus and Cass McCombs abound. Yeeow! Due
November 6. Now here we are, another five years, very few shows, or LPs sold,
later: in 2013 we got bamboozled by Keith
Abrahamsson into a SECOND recording sesh (WTF!?!), but this time we were
offered "undisclosed" amount of studio time alongside the usual
"carte blanche". This of course meant string sections were
hired, arrangers and composers enlisted, backup singers hit on, music biz
lawyers attending mixing sessions, blowouts between the band and food delivery
men, coffee pouring into the bass amp etc etc. After three weeks of this
we aborted EVERYTHING, took a six-month hiatus to get over our collective
S.E.N.D. (Sophomore Effort Narcissism Disease), fell back in the studio and
recorded a dozen embryonic 'song ideas', rather than jams, over an afternoon.
We then called up friends who know how to sing and finished up the damn thing
in like three days. The result is an LP we like to call EARLY RISERS, and
beyond the core troupe consisting of Brad
Truax (so many bands, but dude, Interpol?), Kid Millions (Man Forever, Oneida), Barry London (fuck yeah Oneida!), Matt Sweeney (Chavez being his LEAST well-known operation should
tell you something), Jesper Eklow (Meandering
Tedium, sorry, Endless Boogie), Mike
Bones already, and the elusive Papa
Crazee (heavy early riser in team Oneida) we abused the superior vocal
stylings of our Healer, Shaman and Answer CLARK "YEREMIAS" BRONSON, STEPHEN MALKMUS, CASS
MCCOMBS, DAN MELCHIOR, ETHAN MILLER and MATT MCAULEY. This is the sound of
utter confusion and unfocused tender hatred in song form. We have no idea
if we even like it, but we definitely have no shame so here you are, crack
EARLY RISERS wide open and make up your own mind. )

W-X-“W-X”
(11/6) ("Castle Face is proud to present the New solo work from Tim
Presley (White Fence, Drinks). A vast 20-course experience served in a
carnival; a far cry from White Fence and yet still the scent lingers on the
fingers. This record looks through to the matrix of Tim’s songsmith genius. For
fans of early Soft Machine, The Fall, The Tronics, general clutter, disarray,
and Faust. " ***"I think of this record as kind of a 'Tim
Presley reads his book on tape,' the story of life in Los Angeles flowing like
the low moisture river that it is. The start is uphill, long and slow, and you
ponder when you will be spat out onto the straight away. By the time 'Clean It
Glen' kicks in, your hands are sweating, and then you are there and it is
glassy and wonderfully repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. Lights are flashing,
cars are passing. There is synthesized wild life here--blips that are winged,
crackles that are slithering through the digital grass. Echo ripples across a
chrome topped body of water. You catch a glimpse of yourself in a store-that-sells-something
window."Beats are the staccato lines on the road being eaten by the
undercarriage of the vehicle that whips through this world. Guitars are trash
and debris; acid. A headphone record at its primal best, far out and geographically
odd. Every time I play this someone asks, 'what the hell is this?' I say, 'W-X,
dig in. Best to listen to it in its entirety.' A vast 20-course experience
served on twin platters; a carnival; a far cry from White Fence and yet still
the scent lingers on the fingers. He told me I would hate this repeatedly and I
replied that it is my favorite masterpiece of his (of which there are many).
This record looks through to the matrix of Tim's songsmith genius, don't forget
to blink."For fans of early Soft Machine, The Fall, The Tronics, general
clutter, disarray and Faust."--John Dwyer))

VARIOUS ARTISTS-“OSTGUT TON / ZEHN” (11/6) (Ostgut Ton
celebrates its 2015 tenth anniversary with 30 new, exclusive tracks compiled
over three CDs. Since 2005, the label has released 92 12"s, 20 albums, 14
DJ mixes, seven Unterton releases, two compilations, one 7", and one
cassette; over this time, it has not only grown in terms of catalog numbers and
musical variety, but also as a musical haven for the residents of Berghain and
Panorama Bar. But so much for looking backward. At a time when young people are
discovering techno and house for the very first time, and others are
rediscovering the music that has been defining club culture for decades, much
of the contemporary discourse is obsessed with the exploration and idealization
of dance music's past. Ostgut Ton | Zehn, on the other hand, moves forward; the
30 exclusive tracks look back only twice, with one new edit and one new ambient
version of Ostgut Ton back catalog tracks. This compilation is not a nostalgic
collection of the best of the past ten years; it's not a testament to Ostgut
Ton's past. It's a mature statement of the label's status and a glimpse of
what's forthcoming, on the brink of the future. While the preceding anniversary
compilation Fünf (2010) was more of a conceptual release (using field
recordings from inside Berghain as the source material), Ostgut Ton | Zehn was
conceived and commissioned to give maximum creative freedom for the artists
involved. Listeners familiar with Berghain and Ostgut Ton will be served with
new, original music by Norman Nodge, Boris, Marcel Dettmann, Function, Nick
Höppner, Answer Code Request, Fiedel, Barker & Baumecker, Anthony Parasole,
L.B. Dub Corp/Planetary Assault Systems (both Luke Slater), Ryan Elliott, Len
Faki, Ben Klock, Steffi, Marcel Fengler feat. Elif Biçer, Virginia, Atom TM,
and Tobias. But Ostgut Ton | Zehn also serves as a more formal introduction for
new additions to the label and the Ostgut Booking agency roster such as
Kobosil, Efdemin, Martyn, and Etapp Kyle as well as collaborations such as DIN
(Efdemin and Fengler), Doms & Deykers (Steffi and Martyn), and S/D (Slater
and Dettmann). While most of the latter have already put out at least one solo
record on Ostgut Ton, their tracks for Ostgut Ton | Zehn are a peek into the
near future -- full-length albums by Kobosil, DIN, and Virginia will follow in
2016. Dinky, DVS1, and Substance have been invited to add original pieces, too.
