Product Description
Founding member of Screaming Trees, collaborator with Neko Case, Kurt Cobain & Nirvana, Mark Pickerel returns with a mood music masterpiece featuring members of Jack White, The Intelligence and the Mark Lanegan Band. This new album, Tess, proves from the first sly, seductive note that you'll be powerless to resist the charms of this barroom-prowling troubadour. Pickerel roams the treacherous terrain of romance like its the Wild West. Tess is tumbleweed noir - a dusky landscape littered with empty bottles and broken dreams, where bedrooms are ghost towns and love - while not exactly a battlefield - could easily land you in a jail cell. Tess is an album full of last waltzes for last call - impure siren songs, if you will. A seductive invitation to not play it safe.

Anders Trentemoller has risen to the heights of international success usually only connected with artists in more mainstream, pop realms. His outstanding skills and talent for heart-wrenching melodic moments, fused with his trademark sound, have helped him gain fans across the globe, and blur the boundaries between cutting-edge, underground quality and mass appreciation. The 12 songs on Lost mark yet another big step forward in Trentemoller's career. Trentemoller has managed to bring on-board a whole rake of fantastic peers, personal influences and sprouting talent in the form of guest appearances by Johnny Pierce (of The Drums), legendary slow-core pioneers Low, Jana Hunter (of Lower Dens), Marie Fisker, Ghost Society, Kazu Makino (of Blonde Redhead) and Sune Wagner (of The Raveonettes).

Arbouretum offer up four cover versions of songs by Gordon Lightfoot, the oft-overlooked Canadian singer/songwriter who helped define the Folk-Rock sound of the '60s and '70s. 31. THE STARFOLK-“THE STARFOLK” (9/10) (The Starfolk makes melody-rich chamber pop music that rocks in front man Brian Tighe's quintessentially ethereal way. Tighe fronted indie-pop darlings The Hang Ups in the 90's, and co-fronts bittersweet girl-boy poppers The Owls. In The Starfolk, Tighe is on guitar and lead vocals; joined by wife/collaborator Allison LaBonne (The Owls) on bass, Jacqueline Ultan on cello, and Stephen Ittner (The Hang Ups) on drums. Everyone sings. The sound of The Starfolk self-titled is palpably heavier than Tighe's back catalog. But the dirty guitar riffs and insistent rhythms are interspersed with angelic moments where Tighe unveils some of his most McCartney-esque melody writing; steeped in lush, eerie harmonies and elegant, economical arrangements. LaBonne contributes three songs that add dimension to the record; her urgent pulses and chilling vocals offering an exciting shift in perspective.)

Hailing from Manchester, Money released their debut single 'Who's Going to Love You Now' last year. Simon Raymonde was immediately enraptured, and promptly tracked the band down to see if they had anything else in their locker. As it turns out, they did. Promptly signing to Bella Union, the band recently sealed off work in the studio. 'Bluebell Fields' hit the web recently, and made a mighty impression: golden of tone, honeyed of voice, it's the sort of thing spines were meant to shiver to.)
